Nagarkot is a scenic hill station located in the Bhaktapur District of Nepal.It’s approximately 32 kilometers from Tribhuwan International Airport and 35 km from the center of Kathmandu.Situated at an elevation of about 2,195 meters above sea level.



Nagarkot offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Himalayan  range, including some of the world's highest peaks like Mount Everest, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, and Langtang.



The main attraction of Nagarkot is its attractive  Himalayan views. On a sunny and clear day, visitors are treated to mesmerizing  mountain views. Beside the mountain views, Nagarkot offers opportunities for hiking and nature walks through its unique landscapes. The surrounding hills are furnished  with terraced fields, pine trees, and villages.The area is also known for its rich biodiversity, with numerous varieties of birds.

Nagarkot has its own  serene and tranquil environment, making it an ideal retreat for those seeking a break  from the bustling cities. Its cool and refreshing weather, especially during the summer, provides relief from the heat and offers a perfect escape into nature in a cool climate. Many visitors choose to stay overnight in Nagarkot to witness the magnificent sunrise the next morning.


There are approximately 70 small hotels,guest houses,resorts and 4 stars hotels and some homestays  in  Nagarkot. All designed to provide comfort and ensure a memorable stay. Some establishments offer rooms with balconies or terraces overlooking the mountains, allowing guests to soak in the natural beauty at any time of the day.

The main income sources are from agriculture and tourism.The population of the area is relatively small compared to nearby urban centers. The local population of Nagarkot consists mainly of ethnic groups native to Nepal, primarily including Newars, Tamangs, Brahmans, Chhetris, Gurung and other smaller ethnic communities.

Travelers can explore nearby attractions such as the Changu Narayan Temple and old historical city Bhaktapur. Changu Narayan Temple is one of the oldest Hindu temples in the Kathmandu Valley, which are listed in UNESCO World Heritage Site.

You have several transportation options to reach Nagarkot from Kathmandu and Bhaktapur. The most convenient way to reach Nagarkot is by hiring a private vehicle or a taxi. You can easily find taxis or hire a car with a driver in Kathmandu or Bhaktapur. The journey takes approximately 1 and half hours from Kathmandu and 45 minutes from Bhaktapur, depending on traffic conditions by car.

You can catch a  local bus from Kathmandu,Ratna Park and Kamalbinayak bus stop from Bhaktapur. The buses are usually crowded, and the journey may take around 2-3 hours, from Kathmandu and 1 to 2 hours from Bhaktapur  including stops at various locations. It is advisable to check the bus schedule in advance.

If you enjoy hiking, you can embark on a scenic trek to Nagarkot. There are various trails and routes available, depending on your fitness level and preferences. Popular routes are from Sankhu and Dhulikhel, a small town near Kathmandu and Dhulikhel, which takes approximately 3-4 hours to reach Nagarkot on foot by both routes. It offers an opportunity to explore the rural landscapes and local villages along the way.It's important to note that the roads to Nagarkot are often narrow and winding, with steep inclines. Therefore, it's recommended to hire experienced drivers or use reliable transportation options for a safe and comfortable journey.
